Our Thin Birch Plywood range is imported from the Päijänne Tavastia region of Finland. Widely regarded as one of the best thin plywood products in the world, it’s also PEFC certified (with FSC® available on request). Choose from a range of thicknesses from 0.4mm to 3mm.
Thin Birch Plywood has a wide range of end uses across the construction, furniture and design sectors. Its lightweight and flexible nature means that it is perfectly suited for niche uses, such as scale architectural models. This product also meets the stringent requirements of EN71-3; which means our Thin Birch Plywood can be used in toymaking too.

AB Grade
Highest Quality. Light face allows slight colouration and veins; plus curling grain and maximum 3 knots under 5mm in diameter.

B Grade
Slight colouration and veins allowed across the surface; plus slight flame marks and maximum 5 knots under 8mm in diameter.

BR Grade
Allows for more coloured chromatic aberrations; plus a maximum 5 knots under 10mm diameter. Cracks & wrinkles permitted.

C Grade
Lowest Quality. Allows for chromatic aberrations; veins; flames; cracks; stains; and a maximum of 10 knots under 15mm in diameter.

Q: What is Thin Birch Plywood?
Thin Birch Plywood is a product that is thinner than most traditional birch plywoods on the market. Produced using less plys, the product has a much more thinner demeanour, and is generally lighter and more flexible.
Q: What are the benefits of Thin Birch Plywood?
As a result of its manufacture, this product is more flexible than traditional birch plywood products. Having a more flexible product means that it can contort and bend more easily. It’s therefore perfect for producing products where you need to create a curve or bend into a design – such as the side of a guitar or ukulele-style instrument, or a curved ornament or model.
Q: Where is Thin Birch Plywood Commonly Used?
It can be used in a wide range of applications; including furniture, cabinets and speakers. It is, however, more commonly used in modelmaking, arts & crafts, and to create musical instruments. A EN 71-3 rating also allows this product to be used in children’s toys.
